Infinite Possibilities: Chronicles Vol.1

Infinite Possibilities

The Mid-Twenty-Ninth Century

1000 Hours

March 9, 2853

Location: Dry dock 04 in orbit of Mars

A new starship is about to be launched under the command of a famous captain, a hero of the battle of Tovaistan. He is an alien from the planet Mudisan Three: his name is Bontrk. The mission is to explore the last reaches of the galaxy where the unknown lies.

Bontrk and his new first officer Lieutenant Commander John MacLeod watched the christening bottle fly through space and hit the hull of their new assignment, the Gettysburg-class starship Lionheart CX54-7.

Everyone was clapping and howling at the christening. Right after the ceremony, Bontrk boarded a shuttlecraft and went to he Lionheart. As Bontrk stepped on the bridge, he immediately noticed that there were only two seats. One was his, and the other was the helm’s seat, but he didn‘t know where the helmsman was. Then suddenly the turbo lift doors opened; a young female human stepped out and said, “Sorry, sir.”

“To your post, Lieutenant.”

“Orders, sir?” she asked as she looked over her console.

“Take us out,” Bontrk replied.

On the floor-to-ceiling viewscreen, Mars moved away slowly. Then it wasn’t there anymore.

Suddenly the collision alarm sounded, and Bontrk sprang up,shouting, “Turn that noise off!”

“Sir, it’s an old piece of space debris. Its size and configuration match that of an old-style space probe sent from Earth in the twentieth century,” said MacLeod at his operations station.

“Bring it aboard, and put it in shuttle bay one. I want a look at this probe. In the meantime, Helm, set a course for the Paxena system, hyperspace factor two,” Bontrk ordered.

There was an “Aye” from both conn and ops.

In the shuttle bay, connected to the bridge section, was a probe that resembled the Voyager I space probe sent out in the twentieth century.

But that was not all. When they opened the control panel, they discovered that the current configuration matched the one on record.

On his way to the shuttle bay, Bontrk was wondering what the probe had seen in its 900-year voyage. As he got there, the techs had already downloaded the information the old probe contained. “Report,” he ordered.

“Sir, this probe was not sent by the Earth that we just left.”

“So what you’re saying is that—”

The tech cut him off, “That this probe was sent from another Earth or some alternate universe.”

“Well, then download the information and get back to me before we reach the Paxena system.”

“Aye, sir,” the tech replied.

The signal that Bontrk was waiting for came an hour and a half later. “Sir, we’ve got the information that you requested.”

He depressed a switch on the arm of his chair, “Good. Feed it through to the bridge.”

“Aye, sir. Oh, and sir, there was a set of coordinates in with all that information.”

“That’ll be all. Thank you. Mr. Macleod, do we have the data yet?” he asked his first officer.
