A Woman’s Weakness

A Woman’s Weakness, By Molly Gambiza

David and Eva have very different opinions of their marriage. David thinks the relationship is just fine. For Eva, it’s a nightmare.

How long can a marriage last when one partner does nothing and demands everything?

While David sits at home, his mobile phone turned off to avoid work, Eva works full-time. She tends to the children—not just her own, but also David’s surly, resentful daughter from his first marriage. She cooks and cleans, suffering David’s vicious accusations of infidelity if she’s more than five minutes late from work.

Their lopsided marriage can’t continue indefinitely, and Eva knows it. But she feels stuck, worried about the fate of their children—a woman’s weakness.

When Eva realizes he needs her more than she ever needed him, David finds himself rushing to repair their damaged marriage. Now Eva needs to make a choice—does she give her husband one last chance, or does she take their children and leave? And if she stays, will David really change, or is he manipulating her love for his own benefit?

And in spite of everything, Eva loves him.

Then there’s David’s mother, always dropping by with her son’s favorite meals and some scathing criticism for his wife. She doesn’t think Eva is the right woman for her Golden son. She is his mother, she knows  better and she knows who is the right woman for her son.

A tale of a marriage pushed to the brink. A woman’s weakness explores the limits of love, loyalty and one woman’s self-worth.

Chapter 1

“Silence the damn clock!” That was followed by an elbow poking her in the sides. Eva opened one eye trying to hang onto some sleep. She silenced the damn alarm clock, a present from her husband for their first wedding anniversary. “It’s a present we shall both enjoy,” David had said and urged her to open the package. The smile on his face told her it was something special. Was she disappointed? Of course she was gutted. Who on earth gets an alarm clock for their wedding anniversary? She had made a mistake of telling her work colleagues about her wedding anniversary, how excited she was. The next day they wanted all the juicy details.

Melisa from the post room grinned at her the moment she walked in. “You lucky bitch! You are glowing, what did you get up to? What did he give you? I want to hear everything.”

Grinning from ear to ear, Eva delivered her lies. “David was amazing!” She giggled, paused, looked distant, recalling the previous night. She had tried to hide her disappointment as she handed him his present: shopping vouchers she knew he would use to buy a snooker table. She knew that’s what he wanted. Her tears had run straight to her eardrums as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. She wasn’t the type of person who aired her dirty linen in public. She gave Melisa a hundred watt smile. “David was amazing – he prepared a three course meal. I am afraid we didn’t quite get to the third course. Nothing beats the alternative.” She giggled more and reminded herself not to go further with her lies. Three course meal? The only time David went to the kitchen was to dump dirty cups and plates in the sink and to collect fresh ones.

I like the way Laurence and the team spread the word about my book A Woman’s Weakness
The advert wasn’t pushy, it had the right tone in it and inviting. My book had been quiet but the tweets brought it back to life. I had a few orders and downloads
The Facebook team is amazing, helping each other.
