I’ve lost count of the number of times I really wanted to halt an interview and provide coaching to a job candidate. They look great on paper, and their actual work experience and education are a near perfect match for my organization. They perform well on the phone screening with human resources, and then they totally blow it when they interview with me in person.

The various chapters in this book go into greater depth about things you need to know about the interviewing process – how to prepare, how to answer key questions, and how to act during an interview. I have intentionally condensed all this into a form you can read, absorb, and begin using quickly – within 15 minutes in most cases. Learn the game, and you can dramatically raise your odds of getting almost any job.

For now I’m going to give you some very high level basics to incorporate into how you approach and conduct yourself during an interview. If you read nothing else in this book, read these.

Get the Basics Right

If you are interviewing for a job, you need to pay attention to just a few simple rules of thumb. Let these guide your answers and demeanor when interviewing:
 Dress up. I don’t care what level or type of job you are interviewing for, always dress up, even if the office environment or position is casual dress. This shows respect for the company and the individuals interviewing you.

 Whether this is your dream job or not, act as though it is. I want people who are excited about my company, my group, and the work we are doing. If I am your second or third choice – hide it. Otherwise, I will pick up on your lack of interest and enthusiasm and your resume will be in the circular file before you leave the building.

Over 6000 people have been helped by this book!

Don’t take my word for it – read the real stories of how people landed their dream job with this information.

You’re qualified for the job – it should be yours. Let me show you what goes through the head of the manager so you can use it to get that job offer.

In 15 minutes or less you can transform how you interview using a highly condensed set of recommendations in this book. Whether you are seeking an entry level or an experienced management position these behind the scenes insights will give you the edge. I see “bad” behaviors across all levels of interviews, without candidates even being aware of what they are doing that prevents them from being hired. You don’t need to memorize 101 interview questions and answers. You need actual experiences from the other side of the table to guide you.

˃˃˃ Listen to Hiring Managers
Is the book you’re reading now written by the person who decides to hire you, or by someone else involved in the process such as a recruiter or human resources role? If so their guidance may get you an interview, but won’t give you insight into what goes through the manager’s head when you aren’t hired for the job.
