I. In the Beginning…
This book is about the truth of the business world and workplace culture as it exists today. Truth is a powerful, thought-provoking entity, so many of the topics presented here will invoke emotional responses in people. These scenarios have existed in the corporate world for a long time and continue to this day. Some individuals are aware of this (but choose to do nothing about it), many are completely oblivious, and others have just turned a blind eye to it all and refuse to acknowledge any of the issues that occur. Regardless, these are subjects that need to be discussed, and there are things that need to be said. This of course means that many people will not want to hear the subject matter as it will directly challenge their realities and attitudes.
In particular, some people may experience anger when reading the content. This is OK as resolving anger is part of personal growth. Many people become defensive when faced with a situation of being told what they need to hear versus what they want to hear, hence the emotional responses. However, do not get angry at the truth of the content, as that would be misplaced. Take a moment and breathe, then realize where your anger should be directed. For example, in some cases a person may be angry with themselves for letting others manipulate them; in others they may be angry at those who they just realized have been doing them harm.
Whatever the scenario, make sure that positive actions are taken to resolve the anger and the underlying issues, so you can learn from it and grow. This will then help a person to recognize and avoid these negative situations in the future. Now, let’s be clear right away — this book is NOT anti-business in any way, quite the contrary. This book is anti-crap, and anti-lies. It is pro-ethical business, empowerment, and understanding. To that end, its overall purpose is to serve as a wakeup call to everyone and ultimately empower them with the truth of business as it exists in the world today, and to shatter the illusions that are perpetuated through the business world.
Those illusions are powerful shackles used against workers and the public in general which are manipulated by those at the Management and Executive levels of corporations in order to maintain webs of duplicity, denial, irresponsibility, misrepresentation, corruption, and greed. This can cause loss of raises, promotions, and excessive stress, among many other issues for the staff members of those companies, and the world in general. A person will find that most businesses (and their respective staff members) today engage in these tactics, regardless of the size of the company.
