It was very important for her to pick up her check in New City, which was about a half-hour drive away on a dry and clear day. She didn’t have a car at the time, and it didn’t enter her mind to ask anyone for a ride. Her rent was due and she was on a mission to make it happen. She could not recall if she walked down the hill to catch the bus or if she called a cab, but She got to New City——mission accomplished! Getting back to Spring Valley, however, was not as easy. The buses were running off schedule, no cabs were driving in the area, and the wind from the storm was so strong that her cell phone did not work. She had no choice but to walk home.
