Tell us something unexpected about yourself!

I love motorcycles. I grew up riding dirt bikes and in a biker family. I recently sold my Harley Davidson Sportster to help pay for my book promotion.

What kind of books do you write?

Contemporary Women's Fiction, Southern Fiction, Book Club Fiction, and I am working on one that may fall under Young Adult.

What inspired you to write?

My inspiration for writing is mostly to help myself understand and experience my own life. Sometimes I write to relive certain experiences, either because I want to make them better or provide myself with a new one altogether…almost like writing over top of memories. I write to create something new because creating something new is as close to magic as we mortals get to be.

What makes your writing stand out from the crowd?

I am a woman who tries – really tries – to write men well. I want to be fair to both genders when writing them. It's easy to write women simply because I am one. But men are trickier. The common accepted rule is that men are simple. I think that is unfair to men overall, and I want to create male characters who are relatable and just as complex as women.

What is the hardest part of writing – for you?

The only thing I have found challenging is writing good dialogue. The rest of writing comes easy to me. I do have to work at dialogue.

Where do you like to write – what is your routine?

I will write anywhere in my house: on my back porch, up in my loft, in the kitchen, in the family room, in bed. My routine is just that write when I can or when I feel like writing. Sometimes I have to force myself to write, but that is the discipline part of it.

What do you do when you are not writing – do you have a day job?

I work in the legal field as a paralegal during the work week.

Do you work with an outline or just write?

I just write. The only outlines I use are to figure out timelines.

What advice would you have for other writers?

My advice is to forget the rules and write your stories. Also, look into small independent publishers to read your manuscripts and build your author platform every single day.

How important is marketing and social media for you?

Marketing and social media are very important tools in not only getting your book out there but interacting with people, especially other authors, so you can learn from them and help them in return. It is necessary to get your personality out there and social media is the best way to do it, especially when you have limited options.

What’s your next step?

I am finishing up the writing part of my second novel, will then submit it to my publisher to see if they are interested in it, and then will start on my third book.
