Today we are chatting with Kimberlee Bethany Bonura the author of Pelvic Yoga
Tell us something unexpected about yourself!
Yoga and mindfulness don't come easily – I have to work to manage my stress and apply my techniques in my own life. I think that's helpful as a writer and instructor – because I can approach yoga and meditation with a beginner's mind, I can help you as the reader approach it and learn it in the same way.
What novels affected you the most growing up?
Those by Ernest Hemingway, Jane Austen, and J.D. Salinger
Where did the idea for your current book come from?
Working with yoga clients / students and integrating pelvic floor exercise into their yoga programs. Writing the book is a way to share Pelvic Yoga with a broader audience.
Do you think there’s any way you could ever run out of ideas for books?
I have lists of ideas and notes – the problem more often is running out of time to develop them.
What is your routine for writing and has this method changed over the span of your career?
I try to consistently write a little each day. Work, life, family are always there – it can be hard to find large blocks of time to write. In yoga and meditation, a little done consistently is better than a lot done infrequently – the same is true for writing to yield results.
How important is marketing and social media for you?
Social media is clearly important for all of us as writers in the 21st century. I am still learning how to do it, and appreciate BooksGoSocial for helping me learn how to do it better.
What advice would you have for other writers?
You can't guarantee readers – so pick a topic that is interesting and helpful for you, so that you get something beneficial out of the process of writing itself.
What are you reading now?
The Van Gogh Blues, by Eric Maisel, about the link between creativity and mental health.
What’s your next step?
I am working on another yoga book, this time focused on Chair Yoga.
