41JcMAc13cL Tell us something unexpected about yourself!

I once hitchhiked from Nevada to Argentina. It took almost two years. It was without a doubt the best education I have ever received.

What novels affected you the most growing up?

1984 really rocked my world. The Alchemist also provided a lot of inspiration for me as an author and has had a major influence on my first book.

Where did the idea for your current book come from?

I woke up one night at 3:00 A.M. with the first sentence in my head, “At the top of the hill stood an old tree where the boy with grandfather eyes would sit and watch the village.

What is your routine for writing and has this method changed over the span of your career?

I write my best work when I travel – it's how I get my inspiration. But a person can't be traveling all the time. Most of my writing is done in the morning and at night. A cold beer helps.

How important is marketing and social media for you?

Very important. It is a daily lesson that I take – not sure I want to look at my test score just yet, though.

What advice would you have for other writers?

Read. And travel. Open your mind to knew perspectives and write when you are buzzing with the muse. If you wait, the words suffer.

What are you reading now?

Mailman

What’s your next step?

I am currently in the works of publishing the sequel to The Dreamer's Lotus which is called The Great City. In addition, I'm going to release a political satire called IQ84 later this year – A virus has killed everyone with an IQ over 84. Luckily, most of our politicians are alive and very determined to fix things.
