This week, we're talking with Laura J. Wellington about her new book What to Do When Jane Knows DICK About Dating.

What to Do When Jane Knows DICK About DatingTell us something unexpected about yourself!

I graduated college in three years.

How did you get into writing?

I had an incredible 7th grade teacher who made me believe that I was “indeed” a writer – Mr. Zarzecki.

Where did you get the inspiration for your current book?

While on a solo vacation in Amsterdam, I ran into two single women in a pub discussing a date that had gone horribly wrong for one of them. Unexpectedly drawn into that conversation, they told me upon my exit that I should truly write a book. One week later, I had the idea in hand as well as a publisher.

How long did it take you to write this book?

5 weeks

Have you got any writing rituals?

Yes, I write in the morning and when stuck, I take a break then come back to whatever I am writing filled with new ideas. I also think a great deal about what I am writing when running on the treadmill. It opens up my brain.

How important is marketing and social media for you?

Very important. It is at the crux of all that I do, professionally.

What advice would you have for other writers?

Listen to your own heart before others.

What are you reading now?

The Power Of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

What's your next step?

I have a children's picture book series that I wrote and illustrated coming out in 2019. And a sequel to my current book.

What are your top 3 books of all time?

As The Rooster Crows, The Giving Tree, Oh The Places You Can Go

Do you read your book reviews?

Yes
