Tell us something unexpected about yourself!

I love being a Papaw..

What kind of books do you write?

Nonfiction
Christian

What inspired you to write?

I wanted to be an author since I was a kid but never committed to it. 9/11 gave me the nudge I needed.

What makes your writing stand out from the crowd?

My nonfiction books combine autobiographical aspects of different veterans while weaving in historical facts to teach the reader a perspective of military history they were never taught.

What is the hardest part of writing – for you?

Writing is very easy for me. Self publishing is even pretty easy. It's the marketing that is really the most difficult part of the process for me.

Where do you like to write – what is your routine?

My day starts at 5 AM and I do most of my writing and book related work between 5:30 AM and noon.

What do you do when you are not writing – do you have a day job?

I am a disabled veteran and spend my days with my beautiful wife raising our three granddaughters.

Do you work with an outline or just write?

I just write. When I begin a project I already have it outlined in my head.

What advice would you have for other writers?

Write about subjects that are familiar as the basis for your books and as you hone your craft, move onto subjects that you are compassionate about.

How important is marketing and social media for you?

Marketing is the most important part of the process and as an independent author social media is the most important part of marketing.

What’s your next step?

I have to finish the 5 book series We Were Soldiers Too but I am also going to begin writing Christian books. I have a dozen ideas for Christian books that I want to write. I will also continue writing nonfiction with a couple more military history books and a few other subjects.

I’d like to read a story about a devout Christian who delves deep into the text of the Bible with a Rabbi and comes to a deep insight about God’s true mission for the Jewish people.
