Today we are chatting with Faren Siminoff the author of The Transformation: GTE 45

51%2BTRhEODYL Tell us something unexpected about yourself!

A lot of people are surprised I began this book three years before this current election as the novel seems to closely mirror much of what is happening today. Also, I love Japanese fiction.

What novels affected you the most growing up?

Lord of the Rings, 1984, Pride and Prejudice

Where did the idea for your current book come from?

I am an historian and history professor. I think all historians like to believe they can prognosticate (just a bit) the future through their understanding of the past. That led me to imagine a possible future based on our past combined with the trends I see unfolding in America.

Do you think you could ever run out of ideas for books?

Ideas are as boundless as time- the only problem for human beings is that as individuals we run out of time- it's never enough.

What is your routine for writing and has this method changed over the span of your career?

Most of my writing has been historical and this is my first novel, but the method is the same for fiction and non-fiction- write everyday, even if it is only a paragraph or you lose the thread.

How important is marketing and social media for you?

I think in this day and age it's critical for getting a readership.

What advice would you have for other writers?

Write about what feels right to you, what you connect with and don't worry about trends.

What are you reading now?

Haruki Murakami's IQ 84

What’s your next step?

I am working on a history and, of course, trying to promote my current book, The Transformation: GTE 45. Also I hope I was not totally accurate about the future for America I laid out in my novel!
