This week, we're talking with Ron Stern about his new book, Meals, Movement, and Meditation.
Tell us something unexpected about yourself!
I'm a doctor practicing full time. I've been interested in the facts about health for a long time and I was so confused by all the misinformation about nutrition and exercise that I decided to do something about it…the result is Meals, Movement, and Meditation.
Why do you write?
I've always loved writing, but I'm really passionate about Medicine, and particularly nutrition, exercise, and meditation.
What book do you wish you had written?
I'm still thinking about writing a companion to my book, which details the how-to of nutrition, exercise, and meditation…it's in the planning stage.
Where did you get the inspiration for your current book?
After reading countless confusing and misleading books on nutrition and exercise, I decided I needed to clear up my own confusion by getting the facts straight.
What do you enjoy the most about your genre?
Well, I'm a doctor, so I like dealing in facts, but I really love reading well-written mysteries and thrillers.
How would you describe your writing process?
It depends what I'm writing. For this book, which is about evidence, it was methodical and careful. I've dabbled in fiction and that process is spontaneous and free flowing ideas. I love both processes.
What do you think authors have to gain from participating in social media?
It's a huge part of so many people's lives, so participation in this media is essential to making them aware of this book.
How do you react to seeing a new review for your book?
It's always exciting…
What advice would you have for other writers?
Be persistent and listen to criticism.
How do you select your books’ titles and covers?
I came up with several options and asked friends and family members their thoughts
What’s your next step?
I'm planning a how-to that details the specifics that I discuss in general in my book.
