This week, we’re talking with Richard D. Gordon, about his book Martin and the Mountaintop: An Illustrated Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tell us something unexpected about yourself!
Richard's play “The Bulldog and the Bear” won the American College playwriting Award in 1982… It also won the Lorraine Hansberry & Michale Kanin Playwriting awards
Why do you write?
The joy of life… the joy of people, and the ultimate joy of celebrating God and his gifts, has always been the underlying theme of my writing. For the past 50 years I have been writing… not as a “writer” per se, but as a believer; writing of God and friendship… as a husband celebrating his wife, and as a father lifting his children in song… and now as a grandfather soaring with his grandkids… (from “About the Author” Martin and the Mountaintop)
Where did you get the inspiration for your current book?
The life and service of Martin Luther King, Jr
What do you enjoy the most about your genre?
Sharing the positive
How would you describe your writing process?
Fooling around in the ocean of creative ideas…
What do you think authors have to gain from participating in social media?
I think I kinda missed the boat on this one… I see tremendous possibility in it's use… but because of my age or something I was slow to embrace it…
What advice would you have for other writers?
What you have to say is important… and no one can say like you…
How do you select your books’ titles and covers?
I let them evolve as much as possible from the writing…
What's your next step?
Share through aggressive promoting
How do you react to seeing a new review for your book?
I am very pleased… I truly enjoy knowing that I have an opportunity to share…
